Besides being a glorious addition to any résumé, MUN is, at its core, a club, full of opportunities to make friends and learn about the world. The MUN community at GHS is one of the school’s largest and most close-knit. Older members love doing well at conferences only as much as they love mentoring newer members and watching them succeed. From group debriefs at night to team dinners to sing-alongs on the bus ride back, the main reason that members love MUN is because of the people. The GHS Model UN Team provides many extra opportunities for members to participate and develop their skills. In addition to the regular Monday afternoon meetings, club members can participate in the club’s own conference, GHSMUN, held in both Fall and Spring every year. Members can go up to anybody they've met in the club and start talking about the election in some eastern European nation and can trust that the conversation will continue and will be entertaining. Many of the former members of GHSMUN have created legacies at the school and continue to do so after graduation, competing at the college level and majoring in a variety of subjects including IR and Law. Many will attend universities with the top MUN teams in the U.S., including University of Chicago, Georgetown, and Harvard. These members always remain proud of having made their start on the GHS Model UN team. They may have started as freshman or sophomores, or even later, but they still return often to speak on their experiences in college and provide advice for the newest batch of GHS MUN members. GHSMUN welcomes participants of all skill and experience levels and we encourage anyone who is interested in participating to be a part of our GHSMUN conferences! |
